Connect power and common wires of your sensor to an appropriate power supply. Check the voltage between the output signal and 0V of the power supply using a voltmeter. Activate the sensor, the sensor should alternate between a voltage and an open circuit. 0V = NPN & 24V (or power supply voltage) = PNP
